As soon as the door was opened the puppies ran out in all directions and it may take a little while to gather them back home". The fact is, some are still out there digging up the flowers in the beautiful garden of Vatican II and making it look like a garbage dump. They took the tabernacle, kneelers, and statues out of the church where I was teaching and turned it into a meeting hall, then took all the Catechisms out of my classroom and gave me "The Velveteen Rabbit" to teach in its place, told me not to teach about devotionals, especially Marian devotions. All this was done with NO EXPLANATION except that these are the "New Vatican II rules". Until I read the documents myself and found out what was really Vatican II and what was someone's personal interpretation, I was totally against most of the changes. However, a lot of pre-Vatican II Catholics who had those things that they held so dearly to their hearts just ripped out of their arms and destroyed before their eyes with no explanation, can hardly be blamed for believing Vatican II is the cause of all the troubles in the Church. For them this has nothing to do with idealized past or nostalgia. It will take a long time to heal those wounds. Maybe they will never heal since most post-Vatican II Catholics cannot possibly understand their loss or their pain. How sad it is to think that some of the most devout pre-Vatican II Catholics may never know the tremendous value and sacredness of these documents.
